Ramadan Craft: Allah’s Name Paintings

Another craft we did this Ramadan are Allah’s Name Paintings… I’m sure if you have more time, you can actually do the different Names of Allah.  We were on a time crunch, so we just did “Allah” paintings..

I purchase these small canvases from a craft store.. I taped off a small border around the edge, and then let each child pick two colors (if they choose more, be prepared for a lot of brown and gray paintings :D )... YES, that's right, baby girl's painting hers white.. a stroke of genius ;)

Ahhh.. I love taking off the tape..

I made a stencil with Allah's Name and painted with metallic paint.. This one is freehand, but if you have more time you can print Names off the computer in various calligraphy styles... After using the stencil, I also finished up the edges with a small brush. These makes great Ramadan/'Eid presents! I always made sure to include a note on the back of who the artist was..

These are so fabulous Masha-Allah. Just wondering what type of paint you used. We have tried painting on these artist canvas . . . the colours always dry dull.

Jazazkhallahu khairan! i used acrylic, which has a slightly matte finish, but i kind of like that, especially when i used metallic paint for Allah’s Name so it stands out. You could use oil paint, but I wouldn’t recommend that which kids… You can mix things with oil paint to give off different finishes. I’ve mixed it with linseed oil and the effect is a high gloss. The easiest thing to do is paint with whatever paint you have, and spray the final product with something that will give it a sheen… There is something called fixative (I think) that you can get from a craft store… it’s used to ‘fix’ chalk or charcoal drawings to paper, but it also gives a glossy finish.. you can also check the fake plant section at a craft store… i feel like i’ve seen sprays there…

if all else fails, you could always spray your painting with hair spray ;) (I’m totally serious!)
