COURSE: Homeschooling/Unschooling FAQ’s

I’ve been a blogger for several years and it seems that the topic I receive the most questions about is homeschooling.  For quite some time I’ve been wanting to address the most frequently asked questions, but perhaps more importantly, I wanted to give some insight and advice to those just starting out, or those in their first year of homeschooling.

  1. How does unschooling really work?
  2. What does your typical day look like?
  3. How do you deal with family members who don’t support your decision?

.. And many, many more!

This course is NOT a comprehensive course on how to homeschool.  This IS a personalized course on my style of homeschooling, and personal advice I have for all of you, regardless of what style of homeschooling you choose to practice.    I will NOT be telling you which curriculum to buy.  I WILL be giving practical advice on how to get started, how to choose a curriculum, and how to troubleshoot the most common problems that arise.. I WILL explain how and why I’m able to homeschool my children, have time for other projects, and actually enjoy the experience!  I WILL give you lots of tips to make this workable and enjoyable for you and your family!

This ‘course’ will be taught through videos posted November 3-5 at 9 pm (CST).  The course fee is $20.  After October 30th (midnight CST), registration will go up to $25.  Attendees will receive a link through email.  The video will be open for at least a month after the course dates.  In addition, a Facebook group will be created for attendees, and I’ll continue to answer questions there even after the course has been aired.

In the meantime, if you have any more questions for me, feel free to add them to the comments below!

I’m extremely excited to ‘sit down’ with all of you and finally answer these questions that have been piling up!  I hope you all will join me, and invite others to join as well!

  1. Please add this question to your list of questions…
How long do you plan to homeschool your kids? Will they ever get
Formal school/college education? If yes then how do you think they will
Be able to adjust themselves to that new environment? If not then how will they
Take care of themselves n their families as responsible adults
Please don’t mind these questions, these are the questions that pop up in
My head once I think about homeschooling my kid.

not available to attend the course. will you be doing another one? or have recordings available?

  4. Also how would it go, if you have some guests over for some days and you tend to be busier? Also having in laws living with you, would you think it would get more difficult as kids would have someone to run to, every now and then?

  6. Friba, from Nov 3-5, Insah’Allah, but the material will be available for a month after those dates..

  7. Say you are doing a lesson, two of your kids are going along with it and the third throws a tantrum. How would you handle that. It disrupts the whole lesson.

How much time do you dedicate to planning the whole school year?

How do you get time alone to recharge? and how often ?

  10. My question are how to manage with younger kids, living with in laws and guests coming over on and off…then my most concern is social activotoes for kids, my daughters are super shy and i am afraid homeschooling will make them more.

  11. Asak

While I understand the concept behind homeschooling, I cannot believe anyone would deprive their children of the best times of their childhood. The fun we have in school can never be replicated and I think our job as parents is to teach them right and wrong and send them school to make friends, fight, enjoy, learn, laugh, cry and work with peers. A child sitting at home would either be staring at a computer screen or play in a controlled environment and even study at home! I cannot imagine anything more boring than that. And Yes, children can wear hijabs to school and cover themselves up too.

Can’t find the facebook discussion on this course so I’ll ask here.

How involved is your husband with the learning? Do you require any help from him? What level of support does one require from their spouse? And last but not least how do/did you handle criticism and unnecessary advices from family and friend?
