Mile 2 –> Face Off

Face – Off

I’ve been thinking a lot about this concept of ‘being present’ for one’s life.  Living IN the moment.  So often I feel like life is racing past me.  So often I feel disconnected with what is actually happening every day.

So what can we do about this?

The next project I have in mind has to do with the people in our lives.  Who do we love?  Who do we care about?  I want us to make a personal commitment to spend at least 5 minutes, with each member of our family, giving them our undivided attention.  What do I mean?

  1. Every day we will spend 5 minutes engaging in a one-on-one conversation with everyone in our family whom we love and cherish (ie, my husband, and my two kids-individually).  It doesn’t matter the age, you can still devote uninterrupted attention with a newborn..
  2. We will shut off our cell phones, close our laptops, and turn off the tv for this exchange
  3. We will try to make eye contact with the other person while conversing.  Try to avoid having your 5 minute talk in the car, or while doing something else.  You need to stay focused on the person at hand..

What’s the point?  The point is that we have so many things distracting us all day that it really begins to interfere with our relationships with people.  Sadly, sometimes days go by without even 5 minutes of real ‘face’ time.

So let’s make it a point to disconnect the gadgets and reconnect with the people!

Fantastic. Will give it a try to tomorrow inshalah. The hard part is probably remembering. Btw my friends and I are reading a book and our assignments based on the book each week are similar to these. Check out the cook, it’s by a Muslim author and it’s called “enjoy your life”
